Applications Introduction
Earth Orbit Application
In this application, students will:
- explore the three orbital parameters (eccentricity, obliquity, and precession) and their influences on insolation;
- identify patterns of change in these parameters' graphs;
- understand the importance of time ranges when analyzing or comparing data;
Water Cycle Application
In this application, students will:
- learn about the concepts of delta 18O and oxygen isotopes;
- compare how water molecules move and delta 18O change in glacial and inter-glacial/non-glacial periods;
- understand why we would need to look at delta 18O to know when ice ages occur;
Delta 18O and Insolation Data Application
In this application, students will:
- know what upward and downwrad trends in delta 18O data mean to ice volume;
- identify the "present" in the graph and think about what the data of the "present" indicates;
- compare the curves of insolation and delta 18O to learn about the correlation between these two things;
